InterContinental Malta presented with eco-certificate
Following an intensive audit by the Malta Tourism Authority's Green Committee, InterContinental Malta was recently presented with an eco-certificate by Mario de Marco, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, and Josef Formosa Gauci, MTA CEO.
InterContinental Malta is eco-certified to meet the demands of the evermore environmentally aware tourist by complying with a number of criteria all aimed at improving the hotels' environmental performance. The management of InterContinental Malta has created environmental awareness among its employees and is committed towards a better environment, not only for tourists, but also for locals, the hotel said in a statement.
This hotel has implemented environmental practices such as training staff on environmental best practices, introducing waste management strategies including the separation of certain streams of waste, developing green policies for product procurement, creating environmental awareness among staff and guests, promoting local culture and reducing the usage of harmful chemicals such as pesticides and chlorine by introducing environmentally-friendly alternatives.
"Protecting our planet and being environmentally conscious and aware is an important part of our corporate social responsibility programme. It is our responsibility and obligation to take action today for the benefit of tomorrow especially since the environment belongs to us all," said InterContinental Malta's general manager, Giuseppe Vincelli.
