Forget Norway, come to Ħaż-Żebbuġ!

Norway, or rather, two of its citizens in particular, have given me and many others a great deal of aggro in the past two weeks.

First, almost two weeks to the day, that totally incompetent, selectively myopic and, supposedly FIFA and UEFA standard Norwegian referee, Tom Henning something, made sure that my beloved Chelsea were kicked out the Champions League. Like many of my Chelsea brethren I still cannot get over it and I still choose to believe that there was a conspiracy to get rid of the Blues because a second all-England final in as many years was totally unpalatable to the powers that rule European football. So much for fair play!

They say that to err is human but to persist in error is diabolical. Not to award at least one of three clear penalties is ultra diabolical then. No wonder big Didier Drogba lost his cool and snapped. He is only human like the rest of us. I won't slag him. In fact, I believe he did not do enough - a good head butt was in order. Might have knocked some sense into the ref!!!!! And why hasn't UEFA said anything about this idiot's abysmal refereeing yet? Why are they so intent on disciplining Drogba and co. but have not had the decency to say how they are going to ensure that justice is done with Chelsea? F..k you UEFA!

There it is, I've finally got it off my chest!!!

Not for long though!

The same sort of feelings apply to those sycophants who voted for that dreadful Norwegian song last Saturday. Malta's Chiara might not have been the best song but it was much better than this rubbish. And that's not to mention Mr Ryback's poor, discordant voice. Chiara compared him to Harry Potter and by jolly he sure worked some magic and cast some sort of spell on the voters!

My advice is simple. Let's do like Italy and simply give this circus a permanent miss. It's not worth the bloody money anyway!

We have enough local talent and plenty of entrepreneurs to give us good, world class quality gigs any day without our needing to depend on the votes of neighbours.

Speaking of which, please do come to Ħaż-Żebbuġ, this Saturday, May 23, 2009 from 8.00 p.m. onwards for our first try at a Notte Bianca kind of event. There will be lots to see. Local talent lead by Joe Brown and his big band, traditional crafts and għana. A kids' play area, historical re-enactments, a jazz and wine area, traditional band marches by the three local bands - one of which boasts to be the oldest in Malta.

There will be lots more.

The ancient parish Church will be adorned in practically all its finest furnishings and decorations in honour of the Żebbuġin's Missier maħbub Filippu (ironically also decorated with the epithet Terror Daemonum!) and will be kept open till midnight.

But, above all, come and give Chiara a standing ovation for having done her best in carrying the flag for us!

Come, we are expecting you. For, as the event adverts say, Ħaż-Żebbuġ jistiednek!

I am also like you sick as a pig of what happened to CFC. We were robbed which was witnessed by the whole world. The ref surely will not officiate a game for a long time.
You cannot protest over the result, the refs decision is final (laws of the game) unless he commits a technical error. His errors were not even human related but of pure ignorance of not being capable of judging what a penalty is. UEFA will take action by side lineing him for a long time and he will be back (unless he retires) but chelsea paid the price and were unfairly knocked out. We kept focused and went on the win the FA cup.

@ Charles J Buttigieg

Revealing the political tendencies of your relatives and their friends is not exactly kosher since they must be known to hundreds of people whose business knowing the details are not theirs.

How can you allege that the Electoral Commission would discriminate on the basis of political leanings? Is it possible that you only know Nationalists whose vote has been restored? Have you no Labour friends at all who are working overseas?

What a coincidence!

Four members of my extended family who have been living in Geneva and a close friend and his wife, both working and living in Venice for the last three years, have been issued with voting documents and are now legally considered as legitimate voters.

Is it a coincident that they all happen to be PN Supporters?

Lol .... As a Madrileno Socio, I watched Barca vs Chelsea and I publicly condemn the biaed refereeing that I winessed. On the other hand I publicly condemn Brogba's outragious behaviour and I expect he will pay heavily for his tantrums!

on the other hand I do expect UEFA to take serious actions against the referee in question and expell him from ever refereeing again in the Champions League.

Having said all that, Chelsea had enough occasions to close the game and never did that.
Mia Culpa should be carried on their Chelsea shirt for a long time.

I agree hundred per cent that we should pot for a 'a permanent miss' with the european song festivals. It seems we never learn that participation in this festival is simply waste of money and energy, which we can very well use in something much more profitable.

Indeed, let us all meet at Haz Zebbug ( malta) this evening and enjoy a great spectacle.
