Prag – tastic!!!!
Tooth paste ….check…..
Underwear …check….
Setlists……hmmmmm….check....
Tambourine….check
That’s me packing for my trip to Prague with the band. I absolutely detest packing with a passion, so my father (who is super organised may I add) has printed out a ‘Travel List’ or rather as he’s called it the “Don’t Forget!” list (heheheh) which I follow to the T before I leave the island, because I’m sure to forget something if I don’t!
I love airports, I don’t know what it is about them…maybe it’s because they’re like the modern age cross roads ….or maybe it’s because I can perform circus tricks with my luggage trolley (which has often resulted in mild injuries hehe) or maybe it’s just because it means I’m off to another country to perform my music live.
We were 10 in total, all of us got on marvellously. I find it’s so important to surround oneself with positive people and we were a group of such interesting characters it just spelled out success! The competition winners were with us also and I enjoyed their company so much that Howard and I are already thinking of taking another couple of fans with us elsewhere!!!!!
We arrived on Wednesday and had a night off, so dinner was in order. I’m very impatient when it comes to waiting for my food, so I took the initiative and wrote down our order on a slip of paper and went to give it to the waitress myself. She loved that! And I was given a shot of vodka, for my help, just before we left the restaurant….very kind I thought…..as my throat went up in flames hehehehe
The next day was free so Ernest Flamini (the Consulate for Malta in Prague) organised a tour around the old city. It was such a lot of fun to discover this new city with the people I share so many emotions on stage with. We visited the old cathedral of St. Vitus, where I was mesmerized by the Mucha Stained Glass window, we also walked along Charles Bridge where I appreciated the beautiful hand made art and accessories and at 4pm we made sure we were in front of the Town House to watch the clock strike.
The next day we made our way to the site. It was a gorgeous setting in the middle of the woods. So the main stage where we were playing, was surrounded by tall majestic trees, it was magical! We had our sound check early on in the day, so the rest of the day we just walked around the festival and then chilled at the hotel.
It was a lovely starry night and the gentle breeze was really welcoming on stage. As soon as we kicked off the show, we knew it was going to be a huge success. The audience went wild and totally reacted to our set. We were the head lining band and closing the show, so we felt a certain responsibility.
The show was incredible and the audience asked for more….it’s always such an amazing feeling to be asked to play more of your own music! The signing session right after was a huge success, many people coming over for autographs, asking to buy “Fortune Teller” and taking pictures with us. Even if promoting our music is one of our main targets when we play outside our shores, it is also such an indescribable feeling that the globe is so small and there are no boundaries to music. There were two random people one from South Africa another from U.S.A who had visited Malta in May and where present at SKY when I launched my album, so they were super excited to meet us!
The world is so small when you think about it and yet there are so many differences. Some fascinate us, some draw us apart. The Festival was a great experience for us as it was for many youngsters, save over 60 students who faced a bitter end to their stay in Prague when they were told that there country was at war. The Georgians are still unable to make their way home. How ironic that they were praying, working together and believing in nations living at peace together….They are in my prayers.
Ira Losco will be playing live with her band on Saturday 23rd August at the Gozo Music Festival at the Gozitano Court, Gozo.
